“And I walked for hours, imagining the mist growing thick and swallowing me whole. The thought of disappearing like that, so simply, made me so happy.”
– Jay Asher –
This photograph is a grabbed shot, or should I say just a snapshot, I really did not plan it, if I know that someone will cycle through this paddy field, I will definitely change my lens from 24-70 mm to 70-200 mm to get a little bit tight, but then I think this wide shot works well with the environment. Some people said that, the best photographs always happens in an unexpected situation.
The photograph above were taken around 7:30 am in the morning. I took the shot not very far from Nancy and Harriss Hill View Lodge in Bario, the lodge is just behind me actually. Before I took this shot, I was busy photographing an old abandon aircraft (I will share it on later on another blog post) behind me and suddenly I saw this lady riding a bicycle, maybe heading for work somewhere.
I was in Bario Sarawak for five days, one of the most remote location in Malaysia with another group of journalist attending Bario Media Tour organised by Department of Information Malaysia (Jabatan Penerangan Malaysia). But for this early morning walk, I’m with my collegue Bolhan from Miri Sarawak. We both start wandering around as early as 06:00 am looking for some photo opportunity during our last day in Bario before heading back to Miri at 12:25 pm by flight.
People always said that the early bird gets the womb but in photography, I guess early risers photographer get the best picture. It was very cold in the early morning here, the mist were so thick and it will be great if we can just spend the cold morning under the thick woollen blanket. Me and my friend brave the cold morning wandering around for photo opportunity because during the last few days, our program were so pack and we just could not find the time to look for something that interest me other than photographing the event.
Some people might get bored with Bario, while others like me might fall in love with it. There is nothing much you can do here. There is an internet line here but it was too slow, I’m using Maxis and there is no coverage here for 3G or Edge, just a line to make a call or sms. Celcom user a bit lucky, they can get Edge connection.
I wish I’ve more personal times here, I just wanted to wandering around and spend the time watching the activity here, it seems that everyone knows everyone here. They will stop by or simply wave their hand as they pass to greet you. Bario has 14 villages with the population of approximately 2,000 people. Bario…, I’ll definitely come back for more, insyaAllah…
