Photojournalism | Media Conference for MH370 | Kuala Lumpur

Actually I was a little bit late attending this MH370 news conference, so I really don’t have much angle to choose from. As usual I like to start with a wide angle shot, and then only focus on what matters but normally wide angle shot for event like this is not suitable for online media. The reason is that, it has less impact. You know why? Nowadays most people view news from their mobile device and the screen is quite small to see all the details from a wide angle shot.
If I shoot for news media especially online media, I will choose to focus on a tight shot for the person that matters, and just crop out the unnecessary person. If just three of them or one of them appears big on our mobile device, we can quickly recognise the person in the picture without much attention compared to small size of them on a wide angle shot. Since I’m working with Department of Information Malaysia, they need this kind of a picture, so that they can better plan on how to handle the media. Actually there is another large area for this news conference regarding MH370, but I don’t know why they choose this place and I’ve yet to get the answer.
