Once we reach Kinabalu Park Office, we need to register our name, pay for our insurance and mountain guide fee. You cannot climb the mountain without a mountain guide. It is mandatory, even though the trail to the summit is well marked. You will never get lost if you follow the path on your own.

After you collect your passes, head over to Balsam Buffet restaurant and collect your packet lunch, actually it was just a simple sandwich with two apples and one bottle of mineral water. For me, it is more like a breakfast than a packet lunch.

Take some photograph before we head to Timpohon Gate to start our journey. You need to pay for RM16.50 per person (one Way) for transportation to the Timpohon Gate, which is located around 5.5KM from the park headquarters, You can choose to walk if you want to save some money but losing some energy along the way. It’s your choice, we took the van.

We started our journey here, crossing the gate at 8:10 Am sharp and we say hello to Adventure. Adventure is out there. If are still young and have an interest to climb a Mount Kinabalu, my advise is just go, just do it. For Malaysian the cost is less than RM100.
You can do it DIY style, no need to buy a package from Travel Agency. Just head to Wisma Sabah which is located not very far from Suria Sabah shopping complex and make your arrangement there.
