Children Photography | My Son at His Classroom | Preschool

Just wanted to share few photographs taken during my son school events for Outstanding Student Awards and Preschool Graduation Day. My son HaiQal will be seven years old next year and this few weeks will be his last in preschool and the photograph above were taken at his classroom where he spend almost two years learning one, two three, A,B,C and few other things.
I did not get a chance during my childhood to attend preschool, I just went straight ahead to standard one or Year One in primary school when I was seven years old. Children nowadays are very lucky, some of them learn A,B,C as early as three years old and most of them start at four or five years old, no wonder most of kids nowadays are quite smart.
Anyway I’ve nothing much to say about world education system or how we should teach our children, I just wanted to photograph my son with the environment that he will miss a lot. I took the photographs above after the ceremony end, some of his friends still outside, either playing with their friends or just spending time with their family.
I took the opportunity to photograph my son in his classroom which is empty. All of the photographs above were taken with just one single lens, which is 24mm prime lens open wide at f/2.8. The lighting inside the classroom were not so bright, so I’ve to bump up the ISO to 1000 and just use available light there.
My concern is just to get the environmental portraiture that he will definitely missed. Some people may hate the cluttered or not so plain background, a “distraction” but then, the background is the “Story”. Without the background, without the well recognised background, the photograph will be quite meaningless. There is a time for creamy “Bokeh” and there is a time that we need to get the background in focus, not so sharp but good enough to be recognised, to add context to the story.
