“If you reject the food, ignore the customs, fear the religion and avoid the people, you might better stay at home.”
– James A. Michener –
I believe that there are a thousand reasons why we should travel and there are also a thousand reasons why we should’t, why we should spent our whole life at one place till our last breath. I’m not here to list down all the reasons because I know that if you love travelling, it doesn’t matter much to you, instead of pondering at the reason, you better check the air tickets and just buy one.
Anyway what I’m trying to share here with you is that, if you have a chance to travel anywhere else in the world outside your home country, just take your time to taste the local foods, it may or may not suit your taste but then, this is why we travel, to learn about other people culture, to get to know about other peoples taste.
Sometimes it is irritating when traveling with people who try their best to find foods that they can find it at their home, eating McDonald’s in a foreign country for an instance is not good when you can have it in your own country, I believe the taste will be more or less the same.
I was once in London for a twelve hour transit to Santiago Chile, this one friends of mine suggested to me, to pay a visit to Malaysian Embassy in London, he told me that, I can have a “nasi lemak” (fragrant rice dish cooked in coconut milk) or “roti Canai” there, both are Malaysia’s favourite foods, in my mind, I said to myself, why on earth, after traveling more than ten thousand kilometres that I want to have something that I can find back home. It doesn’t really make any sense to me, In the end I ignore him and take the tube and going somewhere else.
Back to the photograph above, if you happen to be traveling to Istanbul, be it on a business visit or for a traveling purpose, do take some time to enjoy local foods especially kebabs which can be easily found in Istanbul but I highly suggested you to try the fish kebab at the Eminonu just next to the Galata Bridge, yes you can have the fish kebab somewhere else around Istanbul, but the environment at the Eminonu is quite different, it can be very difficult to get an empty seat during peak time such as during lunch hour and in the late afternoon.
To some people it doesn’t taste good, or doesn’t suit their taste but I like it, anyway just give it a try, at the time the fish kebab there will cost you around 5 Lira (February 2013), maybe the price may change but trust me, it will be one of your memorable experience in Istanbul.

Before I close this entry, the place where people enjoy fish kebabs is looking great during sunset if the weather is good, so if you planning to visit this area, I will suggest to visit it in the late afternoon, take your time to enjoy the foods and when the lighting is great, get onto the Galata Bridge and take some photos, it will be a great photograph to end the day.
