A Moment to Remember | In Person With David duChemin | Bhaktapur Nepal
© 2012 Wazari Wazir | Me and David duChemin | Bhaktapur Nepal
Among the most memorable moment while I was in Nepal is meeting David duChemin in person in the historical ancient city of Bhaktapur. We, I mean me and my other friends did not plan for this meet up, even though I know beforehand, that David and Jeffrey Chapman (as seen behind David duChemin wearing a cap) will be in Nepal somewhere in November 2012 to conduct his WTF Within The Frame Photographic Adventure in Nepal, we did not plan the meet up but I really wish that I might bump into him somewhere in Nepal and it looks like my wish granted.
To cut the story short, we were just finished settling our trekking permit TIMS (Trekker’s Information Management System) and entry permits for Langtang Valley Trek at Tourist Service Centre in Kathmandu on Sunday, 11th November 2012. We will began our trekking the next day which is on Monday, while still have few times ahead of us after finishing with the documentation, I suggested to my friends to visit the ancient city of Bhaktapur which is approximately 45 minutes from Kathmandu.
To enter Bhaktapur Durbar Square, we have to pay Rs1100 at the entrance, once we get in, I was overwhelm by the magnificent architecture in Bhaktapur, and I just don’t know where to begin, I mean I just don’t know where I supposed to take a picture, for me every square inch of Bhaktapur offer plenty of photography opportunity and it is no wonder why David duChemin choose this place as one of his destination for Within The Frame Photographic Workshops.
While I was busy looking here and there and enjoy the atmosphere in Bhaktapur, I saw a familiar face, someone that I think I knew, someone that looks like David duChemin, at the time I wasn’t so sure, he was walking with one of his friend, maybe one off his photographic workshops participant but I’m not sure, so I called my friend Mohd Shukur, to get his affirmation and he too think that it is in fact David duChemin.
So we decided to followed him from behind and then I saw him surrounded by some people with a cameras, at that time David did not carry anything with him, he did not carry any camera, I braced myself and ask him “Are You David duChemin?” and the rest is history, we were talking about his injured leg, about his photographic workshops and about his new books.
To those of you who have been following my blog for a while , will know that I’m a big fan of David duCehmin, I’ve purchased three of his books titled Within The Frame : The Journey of Photographic Vision, Vision Mongers : Making a Life and Living in Photography and also Photographically Speaking : A Deeper Look at Creating Stronger Images.
I was inspired by his photographs and also by his wise words about photography, what I like most about him is that, I like his style, I like his approach towards photography especially towards travel photography and portraiture. I read his blog with full of interest, his words really inspired me to travel the world.
I know that, there are many great travel photographers out there, but to me, not many of them can write as good as David duChemin, not all photographers are writers, some are better with lens and camera and not so good with pen and papers or “keyboard”.
To those of you who are scratching their heads about who is this guy; David duChemin is a Canadian international assignment photographer specializing in Humanitarian and world photography. A nomad, visionmonger, unashamed do-gooder, and sometimes author.
