Low Light Photography | ISO 12800 Field Test at 25th World Gas Conference Kuala Lumpur

I’ve a bit of fun testing the performance of Nikon newest professional camera D4 at high ISO, yes I know it can go further but I just wanted to test it at ISO 12800. I took this shot during 25th World Gas Conference here in Kuala Lumpur and what you see here is that, our Prime Minister watch a stage performance after launching the opening ceremony. This picture is nothing, I mean it will never be used but I took it anyway just to test the capability of this camera. The hall is very dark, the only light source came from the stage. You can imagine the same situation at the cinema, where the only available light is coming from the big screen.

Here is the EXIF : Nikon D4 | ISO 12800 | Shutter 1/25 | Aperture f/4.0 ( I’m using Nikon 24-120mm f/4), handheld shot. Off-course there is some grain, what do you expect from shooting at such High ISO but still, you can see the Prime Minister face there and it is good enough to play around and taking picture without people getting notice. Actually I can hardly see the Prime Minister myself, I can only make a will guess where the Prime Minister is sitting and D4 did not hunt to get my subject in focus, I think I will get a better performance if I’m using fast lens like 70-200mm f/2.8 or 24-70 f/2.8 but the maximum aperture on 24-120mm is f/4 and that’s all I have.
