KASHMIR 2012

I took this photograph on my way to Pahalgam, the view towards Pahalgam from Srinagar is beautiful to my eyes, rustic charm villages along the way and when I saw this bridge, I asked my driver to pull over because I wanted to take a photograph from the bridge, actually we pass through many beautiful landscape and river, I’m not so sure the name of the river here, it could be Jhelum River but anyway  we stop by here and take few pictures  at the bridge overlooking the Himalaya.

Then suddenly this boy came out from behind and asking me to take his photograph, he just stood there in front of my camera and I just took the shot and a few minutes later, few of his friends came by and I took a picture of them too. They are friendly and demand nothing from me. As you can see from the thick layers of winter clothing that this boy wear, you can imagined how cold it was, even to the native of Kashmiri children. I wear six layers of clothing myself and still shivering to the bone.

Anyway enough about, a little background story of this photograph. The photograph on top were edited with one of the technique in my Photoshop Tone eBook and the bottom picture is SOOC or straight out of the camera, unedited version. Normally I don’t like to add crazy colors or tone my travel picture because I like to keep it as close as what nature intended it to be, maybe few color adjustment will be good enough but sometimes I like to experiment with color tones and see the result, whether it is good, bad, or makes no difference at all.

Sometimes people like to see something beyond ordinary, that’s why some photographers shoot with infrared camera, some photographers shoot with long exposure, by using few filters in front of their lens to make the water came out smooth as silk, you don’t see water like that as smooth as silk in real life, yes the landscape is real but the output is beyond ordinary and I believe people will enjoy seeing long exposure of landscape pictures with a smooth running water than a static shot of using fast shutter speed, you may agree or disagree with me and you are entitled to your opinion.

Back to the photograph above, I really don’t recommended for anyone to play with color tones when it comes to their travel photography, yes you can play with it and I’ve done few crazy tones with my travel picture and  annoy few of my photojournalist friends. This shot is not for photojournalism purpose, personally what makes this photograph special to me is not about the tones but his innocent expression and whether I edit or not this picture, the story is still the same. This is not a tourist hot spot and maybe this kid find it interesting to met a man with a camera and wanted their picture taken.
