Few years back I was so crazy doing this kind of editing, I spent days and night looking for some tutorial on the internet, books and magazines to achieve this effect and after few years learning rigorously, finally I find my own way doing this close to my vision, off course it was a combination of what I’ve learn from all these years.
This texture editing won’t work for every type of a picture, even though you have a solid background in Photoshop layering but without the right subject to begin with, the result may not look impressive. Texture photography is not something new, but now it gain more attention especially to those who like to experiment with their photograph, more than just adjusting contrast and brightness.
Before we start doing this kind of editing we must visually imagine what vintage photographs looks like, just try to imagine that you are looking at a photograph from the early 50s to 60s, they are rustic, loose it’s colors and contrast and some part of the photograph begin to crack or have few scratch here and there, some of the emulsions tears apart and of course most of the pictures in those years will turn into yellowish or get a sepia tone naturally as the years goes by. This is the characteristic that we need to visualize before we begin to do this kind of “vintage” editing.
Trust me, it was a challenge for me to get this effect back then, I’ve almost give up and at one time, I think those who did this must have some secret software to get it done bit after awhile, I know how they did it and once I know how to do it right, I began to loose some of interest doing it, because it is no longer challenging and that’s why lately I seldom do this kind of editing, but just to sharpen back my skills, here it goes.
