Adventures of Danbo
© 2011 Wazari Wazir | My Son Playing With Danbo
What is Danbo? Actually it is a little cardboard box toy from Japan. This toy cardboard robot named Danbo was commissioned by Amazon Japan from Azuma Kiyohiko, the creator of the manga character Yotsuba-chan who lives with her adoptive work-at-home dad, and whose happy-go-lucky adventures are recounted in the popular serial, Yotsubato. Based on the original story in the cartoon , Danbo will turn alive when a coin is inserted into his mouth.Danbo has unique expressions which has attracted many photographers in the world to make him as the object of their photos. Danbo can be posed easily according to the concept of their photos.
I don’t know why I like this toy, maybe because I was attracted to his cute little expression there or maybe because of it’s simplicity in design. I get my Danbo on 6th January 2011 when I bought it from my colleague who ordered it from his brother who study in Japan. You cannot order it directly from Amazon Japan because they will never ship it outside Japan.
Danbo is not for my son actually, it is for me , I was attracted or inspired from the photographers around the world who bought it and make it as a subject in their photographs like THIS . I don’t have a chance just yet to play around with my toy because my son never want to let it go. So that’s why you can see a photograph like this. You may call me childish but why not. I need something to make my day and this little Danbo can easily taken everywhere and hopefully all over the word and I can make a series of The Adventures of Danbo.
Maybe over the years my Danbo will get lost just like the fate of my toys when I was a child, even though I don’t have many toys back then when I was a little boy like what my son have, I really wish I’ve a photograph with my toy but then again, my family were not rich and can’t afford to have a camera, not even the cheapest one money can buy. I may not be able to play with the toy but at least I manage to captured my son and his Danbo for good.
