This is my best friend family Azman Jumat with his wife Juliah Karim and his son Aidid Aliyan . They are more than just a friend to me, more like a family to me. I used to stay at his home if I’ve an assignment there in Kota Kinabalu, if I come alone. This is a family trip actually, we stay at lovely Kiram Village Kundasang Sabah. This place is not very far from Mesilau Nature Resort and Mount Kinabalu Golf Club, great escapade from Kota Kinabalu City Center.
I can write long post about my friend here but what this post is all about is Family Portraiture, this type of Photography business is not as glamorous as Senior Photography or Wedding Photography but nevertheless it is important, in fact very important to get a beautiful family picture taken by the professional. I know that nowadays almost every city dwellers or middle income group can afford to have a camera on their own, from basic point and shoot camera to high end DSLR but most of the times, they are too busy taking picture of someone but their very own family picture, so if you have extra money to spend, why not hire a professional to do the job, so you will get a beautiful picture to hang on your wall.
From my observation, this type of business still not very popular here in Malaysia, they are just a “side business” for most wedding photographers, not their main source of income, maybe because most family are too busy with their own family to think about getting their picture taken beautifully by professional photographers. I think what we as a photographers can do is to create awareness about this, the important of having a beautiful family picture, if not for us, think about for our future generation, our grandchildren or great-grandchildren. I think Albert Einstein say it best…
“A photograph never grows old. You and I change, people change all through the months and years but a photograph always remains the same. How nice to look at a photograph of mother or father taken many years ago. You see them as you remember them. But as people live on, they change completely. That is why I think a photograph can be kind.”
