Pulau Ketam, literally translated, means “Crab Island”, “Ketam” is a Malay word for “Crab”. It is a small island located off the coast of Klang. The island is easily accessible from the Port Klang jetty by ferry. This is a traditional fishing village where visitors can witness and experience the unique lifestyle of fishermen.
I think the easiest way to come here from Kuala Lumpur is by taking a train or KTM Komuter where you can take the Komuter from Kuala Lumpur Sentral Station and continue your journey to Port Klang and from there you can take a ferry to the island, which will take you around 45 minute journey by the ferry.
I should have put few pictures about the fishing village here but I don’t take many of them, we are here for a portrait photo session but I like the bicycle here, it is the main mode of transportation here on the island, in fact if you come here, you can rent the bicycle and tour the island at your own pace. Pulau Ketam is among favorite place for photographers especially those who like photojournalism kind of a picture, human interest, lifestyle and travel photography. Personally for me, this island is not beautiful like Langkawi or Tioman island but nevertheless it will promise you plenty of photo opportunity if beautiful white sandy beaches is not your main interest.
Just one hour from Kuala Lumpur and another 45 minute by boat, we can escape from the hustle and bustle of Kuala Lumpur, it is very good day trip but if you choose to stay there, need not to worry though, there are few accommodation to choose for, just head over to Pulau Ketam Website

How do you achieve the beautiful tone in these images?
Jeffrey Edwards
Geir –
Ahh…great question! Wazari has perfected a set of actions within photoshop that allows you come up with many different tones – depending upon your independent tweaking of the process.
Check out his tone ebook – well worth it!

amazing shot! first pic above – how did you capture the shot? shutter mode?
Wazari Wazir
@Sark, Fro the shot above I shoot at 1/30 at f11 using ISO 100 and with a kit lens 18-70mm, it os not easy to pan with wide angle lens at a close distance but I did try many times until I get it right. I don’t have to wait for a long time for another bicycle to appear because this is quite place with people with bicycle…

@ Geir, I did edit those picture with Photoshop, playing with tone, sometimes I use Curve to get the tine and sometimes I use to play with RGB channel. Actually I’ve written an eBook about how to get the Tone…
