Mini Photoshop Workshops? Why I use the words Mini? Simply because it was a small scale Photoshop Workshops, more relax, just like having a cup of coffee while do our editing. Usually my Mini Photoshops Workshops only for about three to five peoples the most but here in this case in Kota Kinabalu Sabah, there were eight participant, I do need a helping hand here and thanks to Azman Jumat my friend from Kota Kinabalu who organize this Workshop for helping me out. I cannot do it alone, it will be tire some for me.
I don’t know whether people have done this kind of workshops before, I mean in environment like this, at Starbucks or at Old Town White Coffee for their workshops. I do know that this is among favorite place to hang out, to share stories, to discuss about next project and I do believe there are many discussion that took place at this kind of environment. Why I choose this kind of environment, very simple, I want them to relax, to have fun, it would be better to do this workshops is hotel room but then again I don’t want my workshops to look like formal, to have classroom.
I just want to make it clear here that for my Mini Photoshop Workshops, I do expect those who attend it to have some basic knowledge about how to use Photoshop. It is not for total beginner, you may have one month or maybe more than a year experience using Photoshop but you came to my Workshops to learn something more, maybe something extra to sharpen your skills some more or maybe to know something that you have tried to do but couldn’t figure it how to do it yourself.
In My Mini Photoshop Workshops I do expect a lot of question, I do not claimed myself to be an expert in Photoshop and I do admit that I’m not Adobe Certified Photoshop Instructor but I can teach you all the things that I know but first I do need to know your interest, what do you wanted to know. Your interest and my interest may be different, lately I like to play with color tone, maybe some people don’t like that, maybe you wanted to know how to combine many pictures into single frame to make collage, maybe you wanted to know how to play with Type, maybe you wanted to now how to make skin look smooth, I can show you how, maybe not into details but I will show you the way and hopefully you can sharpen your skills later.
It’s all come to practice and more practice, I’m not surprise if some of my workshops participant will forgot what they have learn in my workshops if they don’t practice what they have learn. I can’t teach people how to creatives, I can only show you the way, how to use things and the rest is up to you. Some of the participant asked me about how I do my Black and White, maybe I have some secret recipe for Black and White. I don’t have any secret for doing Black and White. I use layers to get deep rich Black and White and do a lot of masking here and there.
One last thing but very important thing that I want to share is, use Photoshop for an enhancement only, do not use it “repair” or fix a bad picture, a bad picture will always remain as a bad picture no matter how, you can fix small-small things but not change the picture altogether. You can do that but it will be called Photoshop Manipulation, if you are into graphic, then maybe manipulation is for you. I did manipulate my picture to a certain extend but I do it in moderation, I want my photograph to remain as a photograph. I don’t want my photograph to look like Graphic manipulation but if that is what you wanted it to be then, nobody is going to stop you.
I teach Photoshop to Photographers, not for Graphic Artist and for most Photographers just want an enhancement in their picture, just a little bit here and just a little bit there. How to make the colors look more saturated, how to get a beautiful rich black ad white, how to use selective editing, editing certain part while leaving others untouched and one last thing, how to get a beautiful TONES in their pictures, believe me, the right Tones really does make a difference.
